SYNOPSIS
1,500 people in Copenhagen live in social housing in Lundtoftegade under threat of ending up on the government’s so-called “hard list of ghettos” and 60% of the residents being forcibly relocated as a result. When administrative channels and dialogue with policy makers are closed and evictions seem imminent and inevitable, a group of residents, determined to fight to the end, see only one way out: to ask for spiritual help and expel the forces of evil through The Healing, a community ritual to heal their social housing area and change their fate. Under the leadership of Sǿren-Emil, young and old from different backgrounds and conditions, bring their creativity and contribute their art to this collective performance project. Directors
Hannah Elbke is an up-and-coming director who graduated from the Danish Film School Super16 and is currently nominated for a Danish Academy Award for her acclaimed short film Wild Minds. Hannah has worked as a director on the TV series Akavet llll in DR Ultra and as an assistant director on the popular Netflix TV series The Rain. Her short film Bleed was nominated for a Danish Academy Award this year and her first documentary The Healing, which she co-directed and co-edited with director Natalia Ciepiel, premiered at CPH:DOX ’21. She is currently developing her first feature-length fiction film.
Natalia Anna Ciepiel (b. 1993) was born and raised in Farum and has roots in Poland, from where her parents emigrated in the 1980s. She was educated at Ærø Kunsthøjskole and the Danish Film School Super16, where she graduated with the magical realism family story Den Geniale Epoke (2018). The film won Best Film in the “Green Years” category at DocLisboa Film Festival ’19. In 2018, she worked as assistant director to director Anna Sofie Hartmann on her feature film Giraffe (Locarno, CPH: PIX). Her latest film, The Healing (2021), directed in collaboration with Hannah Elbke, was selected for CPH: DOX 2021.
