VALLDAURA: A QUARANTINE CABIN

Manuel Lógar

PREMIÈRE MUNDIAL

SYNOPSIS

Every year the postgraduate programme in Ecological Buildings and Biocities at IAAC (Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia) welcomes students from all over the world in an immersive 11-month academic programme, which takes place on a 135-hectare property located in the Collserola forest. Surrounded by nature, students live and work as they develop their projects, experimenting and using advanced technologies and design techniques to create ecological and self-sufficient environments and work processes applied to architecture. This idyllic curriculum is unexpectedly cut short with the arrival of COVID and the lockdown and soon problems of self-sufficiency and coexistence begin to surface in the group. They face an exceptional situation with tensions and new dynamics that they need to overcome individually and collectively. Dealing with their own frustrations and moving forward with their studies and projects, they will discover that, behind a wall of trees, the possibilities and options are infinite.
