BUILDING BASTILLE – THE TANGLED AND IMPROBABLE STORY OF THE OPERA BASTILLE
Leif Kaldor
SPANISH PREMIERE
SYNOPSIS
The year is 1982 and the newly elected French president François Mitterrand opens an anonymous international tender for the construction of an opera house in the iconic and historic former Bastille prison building in Paris. From over 700 projects received, there are three finalists, including one by the renowned architect Richard Meier… or so they think. In reality it is the project of a young and unknown Uruguayan architect by the name of Carlos Ott and, against all odds, he gets selected. With a great deal of humour and epic touches, Carlos Ott, his collaborators and those involved in the project reveal the fascinating and improbable story of the greatest case of mistaken identity and maximized opportunity in the history of modern architecture. But beyond the almost impossible construction of a building, BUILDING BASTILLE is a grand adventure, a story about perseverance and the sacrifices that come with success.
