THE STILL SIDE
Carolina Fusilier y Miko Revereza
PREMIERE SPANISH
SYNOPSIS
Halfway between science fiction and documentary, the spectral sights and sounds of Capaluco fill the emptiness and silence that abandonment has left in this place. The directors’ voices search for meaning in the failure of Capaluco and the vestiges of an architecture that refuses to disappear from the island. A strange creature emerges from the water and arrives on the island through a strong current coming from the Philippines and, with its arrival, speculates on the evolution of this untamed place and on the different forms of life for an uncertain future. A post-apocalyptic vision that questions the socio-economic structures underpinning the tourism business and its long-term sustainability.

Directors
Carolina Fusilier (Buenos Aires, 1985) lives and works between Mexico and Argentina. Through her work with painting, film and video installation, she explores the relationship between human beings, landscape and architecture. She recently received the Pollock- Krasner Foundation Fellowship (2019-2020) and the Jumex Foundation Fellowship (2019). She holds a degree in Animation (Universidad del Cine, Argentina, 2006-2009) and has completed advanced studies in visual arts at the Düsseldorf Academy (Germany, 2018-2019), at Soma (Mexico, 2016-2017) and at the Artists Program of the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (Argentina, 2011). She co-founded Arquitectura Parlante with Miko Revereza and together they form an interdisciplinary duo. Their work through film and sound examines the widespread notion of terra incognita, as an unmapped/undocumented non-place, in the past or the future, with works that redefine the boundaries between fiction and documentary. Her latest collaboration, The Still Side, is a feature film commissioned by ACC (Asia Culture Center) Cinema Fund.
Miko Revereza (b. 1988, Manila, Philippines) is a stateless filmmaker raised in California and currently residing between the Philippines and Mexico City. His childhood as an undocumented immigrant and his current exile from the USA are part of his relationship with moving images. DRUGS! (2014), DISINTEGRATION 93-96 (2017), No data plan (2018) and Distancing (2019) have been screened at festivals such as Locarno Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam and NYFF Projections, among others. Revereza is a 2019 Flaherty Seminar Featured Filmmaker and graduated with an MFA from Bard College. He co-founded Arquitectura Parlante with Carolina Fusilier, and together they form an interdisciplinary duo.
