OSLAVIA – THE CAVE OF THE PAST FUTURE
Ila Bêka, Luise Lemoine
SPANISH PREMIÈRE
SYNOPSIS
In 2020, in the midst of lockdown, Bêka and Lemoine were invited by the curators of the MAXXI (Museum of 21st Century Art) in Rome to enter the flat where one of the most important artists of the last century and a leading figure in early 20th century avant-garde art, Giacomo Balla, one of the founders of Futurism, lived for the last 30 years of his life. Of inestimable historical value, the flat is a total work of art, where every centimetre has been painted, transformed and personalised by the artist himself and his two daughters, Elica and Luce, who were also painters.
Shot only with the light coming from a few torches, as if we were entering a cave, the film conveys the same sense of awe and violation that the first explorers and archaeologists must have felt. At every step, the camera awakens emotions for the stories that lie in every inch of the place. Walking through the rooms that have remained untouched for so many years, we rediscover Giacomo Balla in his daily life and as an artist.
